Kase's 1st field day experience started out w/a bang but took an unexpected turn after lunch. When I arrived at 9:00, he was having a good ol' time w/his friends.
By 10:30 he was complaining of a headache and a stomach ache. He told me he was hot, tired and didn't want to do the "running game". He is my child and I've been there, done that so I just assumed it was an attempt to get out of doing something he didn't want to do. However, in his defense, it was really hot and the sun was beaming in his face.
We took a break for lunch and I made him eat thinking that might help. As I got ready to leave, he was holding his tummy and telling me he wanted to go home and take a nap. Once again, I thought it was one last effort to get me to sign him out. Boy was I wrong? No sooner than I pulled into my work parking spot, my phone was ringing and....you guessed it. It was the school nurse calling to let me know that Kase got sick on the playground and needed to be picked up. Luckily, Tony was on his way home so he picked him up and took him to the doctor. Twenty minutes and $35 later, they were out the door and headed home w/an antibiotic. Diagnosis...strep throat.
Was Mommy surprised? No, why would I be? Keller had it earlier in the week. Did Mommy feel terrible for not believing her poor little baby? Ohhhhh, yes I did! Did I make it up to Kase? Ohhhh, you bet I did!
