Meet the Teacher

Yesterday afternoon was the "Pop{popcorn and popsicles} Back to School" party at Nebbie so we loaded up our little first grader and all of his supplies and off we went to meet his new teacher.

Kase, along w/about 5 of his classmates from last year, will be spending the school year w/Mrs. Edwards.

She reminds us a lot of Kase's kindergarten teacher so Tony and I are extremely excited about that. In fact, she taught Kase's kindergarten teachers little boy and another kindergarten teachers little girl; so as a teacher myself, that means a lot to me. Emotionally, I did really well until we started unpacking his supplies and putting them in his desk. I don't know what it was that upset me so much but I just lost it. I wasn't sobbing but I didn't talk for fear it would turn into that.

Now that I look back at the pictures, I think it must've been a combination of how grown up he looked sitting there as well as a simple reminder of how independant he's becoming.

He now has his own work area and is responsible for keeping up w/his own supplies. What happened to my little boy who needed mommy to open his markers, help him cut paper, draw a stick figure, and write his name for him?

Once we were all unpacked and checked in, we headed back down the hallway to see his teacher from last year. She is still just as sweet as ever and will always have a very special place in our hearts. As his kindergarten teacher, she laid the foundation and fostered a love of learning and that's the best gift a teacher could ever give a child. Kase's "first day of school" outfit is chosen, his backpack messenger bag is packed and hanging by the back door so I think he's ready to head back to school. My camera and kleenex are in the car; but the question remains, is mommy ready for Monday? I'm sure you don't need me to tell you the answer to that question...
P.S. I know the title of the post is meet the teacher and I have NO pictures of him w/his teacher but I promise we met her. Kase just wasn't up for taking a picture w/a stranger even if that stranger is his new 1st grade teacher!
