Kase had his 1st grade music program last week and it was at that moment that I realized my little boy is growing up. Sure, I already knew it but I didn't really want to believe it until I saw him standing up there so big and tall singing songs {Texas our Texas, Deep in the Heart of Texas, Yellow Rose of Texas} I remember singing when I was in middle school choir.
Yes, I know, quite funny imagining me in choir. But I was and for those of you that don't believe me, feel free to ask Mr. & Mrs. Morton. They were my choir teachers and I'm sure they still remember me as the one who couldn't carry a tune in a bucket but sure thought she could. I can still distinctly picture both of them in my head. Not sure if that's a good thing b/c it was such a great experience or a bad thing b/c sight reading scarred me for life. I still remember do-ray-me-fa-so-la-ti-do and how aggravated I was that I never could get it right...especially when we went to UIL competitions. Maybe that's why I always ended up on the back row in our programs and was an alternate when it came to the sight reading. Please tell me someone else remembers those days!
Back to Kase-It's no secret that he loves to sing and dance so I knew he would enjoy being in the program but I wasn't sure if he would really get into it b/c he is so, so shy. Well, the curtain opened and there he was grinning his sweet little grin.
I could tell he was searching the room over for us but it didn't seem to bother him that he never saw us. He kept right on singing, dancing and reciting facts about our great state. It was so cute and I can truly see choir being something he's interested in a lot longer than I was as a student. After the show, the parents were able to come to the stage and take pictures of our 1st grade musicians. From the looks of Kase and the kids around him, I think they were all a little worn out from performing.
As tired as he was, I still managed to get a few smiles after the show.
Of course, Keller didn't want to be left out so he took a turn wearing the hat.
And when we got home, the boys decided it was mommy's turn to be a cowgirl.
As you can tell from Kase's face, they thought I looked pretty silly. After looking at the pictures, I have to agree with them. I don't think I'll be running out to buy my own cowboy hat anytime soon; at least not a red, straw hat. Giddy up!
