All on his own...

Our extremely cautious child has finally mastered the art of riding a bike w/out training wheels.

Santa brought him a big boy bike Christmas before last and it's been sitting in the garage collecting dust. Although he had a cool new bike, he preferred the scooter or the old one w/training wheels. Any time we mentioned riding the big boy bike, he would take off running inside. Just like everything else, we knew it would happen when he was ready...and it did. He and I got out there last Sunday afternoon and w/in an hour, he was off and riding. I had to help him get started but once he was going, he was on his own. We're still working on turning but he can now hop on and take off all by himself.

As you can tell by the look on his face, he was so proud of himself and the fact that he had overcome a fear. I probably don't need to tell you that I got a little teary watching him take off on his own. We were one proud team that afternoon.

On a side note, he got a new pair of Tom's right before this took place so he now believes those are his "good luck shoes". Guess so b/c they worked like a charm that afternoon!
