Just roll with it...

Not only has that been my "motto" at work the past week, it's also what the boys have been doing the past 2 weekends as they tried out rollerskating for the very first time.

Now that school is in full swing and fall is upon us, their social calendars are packed full w/birthday parties. I'm beginning to think they're the only ones born in the frigid cold months of the year b/c they have a party to attend every weekend this month and next month is starting to look the same. Two of the most recent ones were at the skating rink and talk about fun....we had a absolute blast. This particular rink also had an inflatables area w/bounce houses, slides, etc. so they spent the first half of the party there.

Neither of them were too sure they wanted to skate but after a little encouragement, they were ready to give it a try.

I thought about lacing up a pair to see if I still had any of my old skills but I didn't have any socks....nor did I have my cool purple and black speedskates from my younger days. They did have some loaner socks and although, I'm sure they launder them daily, I wasn't about to put those on my feet...ick! Besides, I knew the three of us on wheels probably wasn't a good combination. Turns out I was right b/c Kase didn't even make it to the rink before he went down. Keller made it around a couple of times before he took his first big fall.

Kase's fall was traumatic so he was ready to take off the skates and play video games. Keller was mad at his skates but got right back up and rolled on like a champ.

After about 4 minutes, he was ready to let go of the bar and do it all by himself.

Kase did let go of his for about 10 seconds so he could dance out in the center of the rink but then it was back in his grip. He's definitely the more cautious of the two.

We managed to survive our first experience roller skating w/out any bumps, bruises or bloody noses so I think it's safe to say it was a success. I don't think they're ready for speedskates but I do have two little boys who enjoyed being at the roller skating rink as much as I did as a child. However, I will tell you the experience w/my own children was even more exciting than the night I got my "first kiss" in the back of the Rockwall skating rink. Now if I can just convince Tony to do the couples skate at the next party...I might even let him kiss me!
