Texas Tech Bound

No, not me. My college days are long gone. This past Wednesday, I had the opportunity to watch this young lady sign her letter of intent to play women's basketball for the Lady Raiders.

She started on our high school varsity team as a freshman 3 years ago and is now two games into her senior season. Due to the fact that I've worked every home basketball game for the past 5 years, I've had the pleasure of watching her play her entire high school career. Not only is she an incredibly talented athlete but she is such a special person. I've never had her in class but you would never know that by the friendship we have w/one another. She stops me in the hall and comes by my room at least 3 times a week just to check in and see how I'm doing. Everyone in our room has formed an attachment to her b/c she is just such a fun person to be around. Her endless energy and infectious personality are often times what I need to make it through the end of 4th period. I absolutely adore her and would take her as my own in a heartbeat.

However, I don't think her sweet parents are going to let go of her. The season just got underway and I'm already dreading senior night when she wears #41 for the last time. She and the TT coaches promised me tickets to any game so it looks like we'll be taking some road trips to Lubbock next Fall. In the mean time, I'll be sitting at the score table cheering for her and her Lady Jag teammates and remembering moments like these are why I became a teacher 10 years ago!
