The 1st grade awards ceremony was Tuesday and what a special day it was for Kase and his classmates. Each student was recognized individually,
a class slide show was played for the parents and then our children escorted us to the library and presented us w/their autobiographies.
I'm usually pretty emotional when attending events that honor and recognize the boys but I was an absolute mess yesterday. The good thing is I wasn't the only one in the room w/an eye full of tears and make-up running down my face. I'd like to blame it on the sweet book Kase wrote about his life but the truth is I had a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes the minute he entered the room.
He just looked so grown up and I was suddenly overcome w/pride as I reflected back on what a wonderful and successful 1st grade year he's had. Kase has always loved school and I truly believe he always will. He just has a constant thirst for knowledge and enjoys learning even when he's not in school. Student/teacher holidays are his least favorite days on the school calendar. It's definitely not something Tony and I can take credit for but the result of an inquisitive mind that is being fostered, nurtured and challenged daily by his teachers. We have truly been blessed w/amazing teachers along this journey.
At this years ceremony, Kase proudly accepted several awards and ribbons from Mrs. Edwards.
He was also presented w/a Super Buddy Award from his 6th grade buddy, Justin. Our family got so tickled about him receiving the "Library Excellence Award" b/c it was only given to one boy in his class and we all just knew it would be Kase; library time is the highlight of his week and he always comes home with at least 3 new books and usually has them read w/in the first 4 days. He is such a little bookworm and would prefer a new book over pretty much anything else, including toys. Each child received a unique award from the teacher and Mrs. Edwards chose Kase as her Marvelous Mathematician for having a final average of 100 in math.
Way to go Kase-we are so proud of you for your dedication and hard work in school. You are such a blessing to our family and we are so thankful for each moment we spend watching you grow. Two years down, 11 to go...you are officially a 2nd grader!
P.S. As you can tell from the pictures below, Keller was busy campaigning for the class clown award. I feel certain he'll get that a time or two...along w/a color change and a trip to the office before he leaves elementary school. Oh the joys of having two completely opposite children. One that won't break a rule and one that doesn't even know rules exist!
