Just a little day surgery

After multiple trips to the doctor and being diagnosed 5 times w/strep throat in 7 months, we decided it was time to get Keller’s nasty tonsils taken out of his throat. He woke up this morning ready to go see Dr. West and excited about getting to pick something out of his treasure chest. I’m sure you can imagine how disappointed he was when we pulled up to the surgery center. We’ve refrained from using the word “hospital” but he took a peek inside one of the rooms, saw a bed and informed us that we were at the wrong place. He tried very hard to convince us and every nurse he saw that he was “all better, his throat didn’t hurt anymore so we could just go back home”…poor little guy was scared!
Fortunately, they quickly gave him some goofy juice so he was all smiles and the anxiousness was soon replaced by his funny sense of humor.
The nurse and I were in tears from laughing so hard. Dr. West passed by and Keller said, “What’s up Dr. West? You got some toys for me?” He then told us the hospital gown looked like a dress. Tony told him he’d call him Kelley and he said, “No, you can just call me Lily.” Lily happens to be our dog’s name. For some reason, he also became fascinated w/making sure all of his male parts were still in place…typical boy! I am so thankful for his carefree spirit b/c it sure made it a lot easier on me. Believe it or not, I only cried once and that’s when they wheeled him off. Twenty-five minutes later and it was over. High-fives were definitely in order for this occasion.
Other than still being drunk groggy and wanting to get up and move around before the anesthesia wore off, recovery was a breeze and we were on our way home two hours later.
Keller was a perfect patient and a real trooper the entire day. Our prayers were definitely heard and answered. Thank you Lord for meeting us there today and making your presence known. We are so blessed!

Keller-I could just kiss that little hand until it falls off. You are precious and mommy and daddy are so very proud of you for being such a big boy today. It started off a little scary {for all of us} but you hung in there and pulled through like a real champ. Words can't even begin to express how much we love you. You're our sunshine today, tomorrow and always!
