Day 1 of Galveston

The boys and I just returned from our annual beach trip to Galveston and let me just tell ya, it was a pretty eventful trip. I'm learning that life w/2 boys is always full of excitement, especially when you have one who is prone to accidents. More about that later. We left out bright and early Tuesday morning, stopped off in Houston to meet the rest of the gang and then we were off to the beach for 2 days. Before we left, Abigayle had to show the boys her water toys.

We spent the first part of our day at the beach

searching for sea shells...

surfing...

and trying to get a group shot of the kids.

After several hours at the beach, with swimsuits full of sand and salt water burning our eyes, we decided it was pool time. This is where the excitement begins!! No sooner than I had taken off my cover up and stepped into the pool to catch the boys at the bottom of the slide, I looked over and saw Kendra carrying Keller down the steps w/blood gushing out from under his chin. I frantically hopped out, leaving Kase to drown as he came down the slide into deep water. Thank goodness there was someone else there to catch him. {Sorry buddy, mommy lost her mind for a minute.} Speaking of mind, whoever said to remain calm in the midst of crisis must not have children b/c there was no calm in me at that point. I quickly found someone from first aid who put some ointment on it, covered it w/a big bandage and gave us directions to the nearest emergency room. At first glance, with skin dangling off, it appeared he would need stitches.

However, once they cleaned it up and I was calm enough to really listen to the doctor, we decided it was best not to do stitches. He was missing the top layer of skin but the cut wasn't deep enough to stitch the skin together. The doctor did throw around the term plastic surgeon and skin graft but I chose to put that in the very back of my mind. I kept telling myself he's a boy, boys have scars, it's under his chin, no one will even see it, we can worry about this when he's older, I want to get out of this dirty place, why did this happen 340 miles from home and I want my mom and Tony. Yes, I'm 30 something and I still want my mommy. Fortunately, Kendra was with me and she is always so calm that it's sickening. She just handles things so well and without a doubt, was the lifesaver that day. Thank you, thank you, thank you for taking charge so I could be a basketcase for a minute...or two. I owe you big time!

Keller-I promise I could save you from some of the self inflicted pain you cause yourself; if you would just listen to me when I say "don't run at the pool"...especially near stone steps that are as slick as ice! Pretty please, can we be done w/emergency room visits for awhile? I am clearly not cut out for this kind of stuff!

Now sporting a big medicated gauze bandage, Keller was not allowed to get back in the water. Poor little guy was none to happy about watching big brother go down the slide.

You know the same mean ol' slide w/the stone steps that caused all of this in the first place.

By the time we got back from the ER, the others were pretty worn out from swimming so we headed up to shower and get ready for dinner.

We ate at a yummy Mexican food restaurant, Salsa's

{Look at that scowl. He was still mad about his accident.}

and then stopped off at Ben and Jerry's for a little ice cream treat.

And yes, you better believe it, I blew my diet. After a day like that, I was in desperate need of some serious chocolate..so I indulged!

Stay tuned for day 2 of our mini-vacation...
