Kase's 3rd grade awards program was last Friday and after falling out of my car and crushing the cupcakes, I made it inside just in time to see my precious first born son receive his awards. And wouldn't you know, it had to happen on a day when I was wearing white pants? Forget broken bones, bruises and scrapes, I just wanted to keep my white pants clean! Yes, it was funny and I've shared the story with everyone so it doesn't bother me that you're laughing at me right about now. I am proud of myself for falling with such grace that my white pants are still white, the cookies under the cupcakes were perfect and the only thing hurt was my elbow and I didn't even notice that until yesterday. My arm was a little tender and within a couple of hours, an awesome bruise showed up...greatness! I am Stacy and I am clumsy...but look at my handsome son.
Back to the awards and yes, I'm going to brag on my child for a minute. I'm his mom so I can do that. He and Keller are my greatest blessings and I want to remember every little detail of their awards program...that's all!
My big 3rd, soon-to-be 4th grader was voted as the Coolest Boy, Hardest Working Boy and Best Dressed Boy by his class. Hmmm, best dressed? Shouldn't that award go to the person who picks his clothes out in the morning?
He also earned an award for A honor roll, perfect attendance, outstanding cursive, math and his music teacher presented him with the music award. Those are all wonderful and I am extremely proud of his academic success but my most favorite award of the day was the Dove Award.
His teacher chose him for that award because he is the "class peacemaker". She said he is always so accepting of others, volunteers to work with any group and wants everyone in class to get along and be friends. Seriously, I was in tears! I could care less about the other stuff...character can't be taught so to hear that his kind heart, sweet spirit and compassion towards others is displayed at school makes me very, very proud. Now, if I could just figure out why he doesn't act that way towards his brother. Actually, I know why because I have a sister. I was always the kind one and she was the one twisting my arm and locking me in a closet. I'm sure she'd tell you something different but don't believe her...she tells stories. We are now the best of friends and I can't imagine life without her so I'm hopeful the boys will figure it out one day...sure hope it's sooner than later!
Kase-you are the most amazing 9 year old I know and we couldn't be more proud of your achievements, accomplishments and display of hard work this past school year. You continue to amaze us with your love for learning and I joke with others that I'll have to hire a tutor when you're 12 because you're going to be smarter than your parents. You are such a joy to all of us and we are so very proud of the young man you're becoming. What a blessing it is to be your parents! We love you.
