Certified Swimmer

Kase wrapped up his swim lessons last week and is now a "certified" swimmer.

In addition to swimming, he also learned a little about boating safety and what to do in the event he's ever stranded on a lake.

All very good things to know but highly unlikely he'll put those skills to use anytime soon. He isn't a fan of boats and isn't the least bit interested in swimming in the lake. Remember, he's my germaphobic and overly cautious child. Yes, I helped contribute to that as you will not find me swimming in a lake either. I like boats but I need to see what's swimming in the water with me.

As for Keller, he didn't make it to the 2nd week of swim lessons b/c he ended up w/swimmers ear and couldn't be in the water for 5 days. Poor guy was crying and holding his ear and head for 2 days straight. It started over the weekend so I paged the ENT and came close to taking him to the emergency room. I had never seen him in such pain. He literally didn't move from the couch for 2 days. We made it through the weekend and made a trip to the ENT first thing Monday morning. Ears were so infected that the doctor couldn't even see his tubes. Bless his sweet heart. I felt terrible! Fortunately, the numbing ear drops worked wonders and he was back to his normal energetic self in no time. Instead of swimming, he searched for sticks to use as...you guessed it...baseball bats...

and golf clubs.

We just returned from Galveston where Kase spent lots of time perfecting his swimming, jumping and diving skills. He is much more confident and that has done wonders for my anxiety level when he's in the deep waters. Hopefully, we can convince Keller that it's okay to get water in his ears so he can learn to swim too....not going so well at the moment. On our shopping list...ear plugs.
