When it rains, it pours at the Lindeman house! I was just telling someone last week that I was so thankful the boys have been extremely healthy this school year. The only time I've had to use my "sick days" was for my own surgery. OK...I did use a couple days for Canton and shopping at market w/mom but we won't count that. Kase has perfect attendance at school and is very proud of that accomplishment...as well as the fact that he's gotten a smiley face everyday. Thank goodness he's going through school first so he can represent the last name well b/c when Keller hits the halls, things are going to be a little bit different. I have no doubts that he will be on a first name basis w/the principal...as will I. Oh well, God blessed us w/one of each so we'll cherish every moment and laugh about it when they're grown. Back to the reason for this post...Keller woke up Friday w/fever and after an afternoon of him not acting like himself and telling me his tongue hurt, I told Tony I better take him to the doctor b/c he had strep throat. Did I miss my calling or what b/c they swabbed his throat and w/in a minute, it was positive? Something about a mothers intuition! He felt pretty yucky all weekend so we stayed in and had a lot of family bonding time. I did manage to make it to my very dear friend Tobie's wedding Saturday and got out Sunday to do a little shopping w/mom, Morgan, Presley and Kase. I didn't find much but Kase was so excited b/c the Target in Allen had the black converse hi-top shoes he's been dying to have. We couldn't seem to find them in his size and trying to explain that to a 5 year old doesn't go over well so I was glad we finally found a 13 1/2. Grammar bought those for now and another pair to put under the Christmas tree...the boy is obsessed w/his Converse shoes and his white ones have just about had it so it was time for some newness in the shoe dept. Little did I know what a new pair of shoes meant to a kindergarten class. Kase brought home a red bag and inside that bag was a "new shoe notebook".
He had to write about his new shoes and draw a picture to share w/the class the next day. What a creative way to reinforce writing! We had a great time doing this; however, the presentation will have to wait until tomorrow b/c Kase left school early today. You guessed it, he was sick...the tummy bug going around his class finally made it to him.
Thank goodness for this blog b/c I'll never forget his first trip to the nurse. When I picked him up, he had on a faded Dallas Stars shirt and some 1980s jeans that were about a foot too short. He didn't say anything in the clinic but as soon as we got to my car, the first words out of his mouth were, "mommy, if we go anywhere, do I have to wear these clothes?" Of course, I assured him we would be going nowhere since he was sick. Next question was, "do I still have perfect attendance since I had to go home early?" Good thing he made it to 10:45 since attendance is taken at 10:00 so yes, Kase you still have perfect attendance...for now! The minute we got in the door, he shed those clothes as fast as he could but he was not taking off those brand new black converse. I will say they looked pretty cute w/his jammies but what have I done to my poor child? He is just as big a germaphobic as I am and wasn't going to be in clothes that he didn't know where they came from. The fact that the pants were too short didn't help either. Tony got home so I went back to work until the babysitter called at 4:00 to tell me Keller was acting like he was going to throw up. Big surprise since I already had one at home doing the very same thing. Fortunately, we made it home and in the door before he got sick. I think it must be a little 24 hour bug b/c both of them ate 3 pieces of toast, drank some gatorade and pretended to be monsters until it was time for bed. Speaking of bed, I think I'll head that way...after I use a package of clorox wipes, spray some lysol around the house, wash my hands for the thousandth time today and thank God for my healthy children!
