making up for lost time

You might recall several posts last school year that spoke of Kase's first little girlfriend, Kaitlin.

The precious one who broke his heart when she moved away. Well, she's back. They were the best of friends in kindergarten but her family moved at the end of the school year. When it was time to send out invitations to his birthday party, we sent one to her old address hoping that just by chance it would get forwarded to their new house. It did end up making it but arrived after the party had already taken place. She called and left Kase the sweetest message on my cell phone; "Hi Kase, it's Kaitlin. I got your invitation but it went to my old house. I wish I could've come to your party. Bye, I miss you Kase". I played the message for Kase and he beamed w/excitement but was too shy to call her back. Three weeks ago our doorbell rang, Tony answered the door and Kase came running down the hall not long after to see who it was. Yep, you guessed it. Kaitlin came to hand deliver an invitation to her birthday party. I was so sad I missed their first encounter but Tony said it was the cutest thing he's ever seen. They were so shocked to see one another that neither of them knew what to say. After a few moments of silence and w/a little help from Tony, the conversation began to flow and Kase assured her he'd be at the party. The initial encounter must've been enough to reacquaint them b/c there was no silence when we arrived at her party two weeks later. They picked up right where they left off last May and spent the afternoon talking,

laughing,

swimming

watching the birthday girl blow out her candles

eating the cupcake she picked out "especially" for him

and just having fun while making up for lost time.

She has a younger sister so when Keller wasn't drowning playing in the water,

eating his cupcake

or making his big brother giggle,

he was off flirting w/the younger crowd.

Although the party ended and we had to say good-bye,

their sweet friendship is still growing strong...and even stronger now that he knows she's only 3 miles down the road. Now if I can just convince him to pick up the phone and call her, we'll be well on our way to an arranged marriage one day! Precious little girl, wonderful family and makes my handsome boy smile...what more could a mommy ask for?
